FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIE FILM CO. JUMPS INTO “THE POOL”
Another Adaptation of Maugham’s Stories In the Works

Indie production company Arriviste Films has recently optioned acclaimed novelist W. Somerset Maugham’s short story “The Pool” – the latest screen adaptation from the author’s extensive literary works, following the fall 2006 release of “The Painted Veil”, starring Naomi Watts, Edward Norton and Liev Schreiber.

“The Pool” is a poignant and tragic story about the pitfalls of love across cultures in the tropics. Set in the late-Imperial world of the 1930s during the last days of colonialism in the Pacific, a young man is seduced by a vision of beauty by a clear pool of water, falling in love, but ultimately losing his sense of culture and direction.

W. Somerset Maugham (1874 – 1965) has written over 50 novels and short stories, several of which have been adapted to film, including “The Razor’s Edge” and “Of Human Bondage”. Born in Paris, the son of a British embassy official, Maugham initially qualified as a doctor in 1897, but the success of his first novel promised a life more glamorous. He is regarded as one of the most prolific and popular writers in the English-speaking world.

Arriviste Films is a production company based in Ottawa, Canada, and has produced several short films, including “The Secret Doctrine of Women”, “The Fact of Blackness” and “Answered Prayers”. For more information, please call Anna Laperle at 613-513-4965 or e-mail Anna at info@arrivistefilms.com.
